Description
Spencer is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate providing support for children and adults. He believes that for a person to grow and heal, they must start with accepting and befriending the complexity of who they are, as they are, without the demand to be who they are not.
A core assumption Spencer brings to therapy is that each of our lives is an intricate interplay of many stories. Each of us has a unique and beautiful story to live and share, yet our story is not simply our own. We each exist and are formed by the interplay of our own stories, the stories of those who have helped us and harmed us, our stories of trauma, cultural stories, familial stories, and so on. With a story as a guiding point of reference, the question becomes where have you come from, where are you now, and where is it that you wish to go? Spencer hopes to co-discover alongside you the character you are in your life’s story, what has shaped that character, and empower the character you wish to be. In life, we all too often feel bound to live according to a script, but a life of story awaits.
Therapy with Spencer involves a collaborative discovery of who you are and the stories and experiences that have shaped you. This approach focuses on the underlying beliefs, motives, and experiences that inform your behavior and way of being in the world. Spencer’s hope is that his clients will grow in a greater understanding of their story and the unique gifts they have to offer themselves and others in relationship and community.
